About The Vernon Davis Visual Arts Scholarship Fund:
In keeping with Community Arts and Education's commitment to support access, information and advocacy for high quality arts education for all youth, a new speaker series, Art Impact will provide a platform to explore and discuss the impact of arts education through the lens of a high profile individual who has a background in the arts, but is not currently working within the art world. In honor of Art Impact’s inaugural speaker, the San Francisco Unified School District and the San Francisco Arts Commission established the Vernon Davis Visual Arts Scholarship, an annual award which will provide tuition support to a graduating San Francisco high school senior interested in pursuing a career in the visual arts at the college and university level. The series will begin in May 2010 with 49er tight end Vernon Davis who, much to the surprise of his fans, is an avid admirer of Michelangelo and the Renaissance period and an accomplished visual artist.
